Thanks so much for your info! Once again my gg-uncle's trail goes cold. Evidently another JF Burk joined the 3rd Conf. Cavalry in Cleveland, TN in July of '62, since my gg-uncle was in the exchange process. What I find odd is that John F. Burk was still on the role of the 1st Conf Infantry through 8/31/63. By any chance do you have any ideas as to available hospital records for the Montgomery facilities? Could he have been carried on the unit roster, even if truly not present? Since the battle of Chickamauga was fought in mid Sept. of '63, I wonder about his involvement. The odd factor is that the battlefield is less than 8 miles from his home in Walker Co., GA.
