Re: Where was Camp Lowry, Tennessee?

Unfortunately the reports listed do not mention a narrative list of casualties. We only know that JFB's name isn't on the next available roll, that of Jan.-Feb. 1864. Names of officers and men permanently removed by death, discharge, going over to the enemy, transfer or promotion were taken off the next roll following the event. If JFB had been captured we would expect to find a Federal POW record in his file, plus his name would not have been taken off roll.

JFB's death due to wounds represents my best guess. We don't have enough imformation to really know. I would also guess that hostile attitude and statements about his father's 'disloyalty' from citizens may have contributed to the arrest. It's not unusual for civilians to have been deported or sent to prison camp.

Confederate dead from the Chickamauga battlefield were removed to Marietta GA, so you may be nearer than you think. Many of these are marked 'unknown'.
