Gay, all of the soldiers listed as being sick (The standard newspaper article of M.L. Sims) show up on the Soldiers and Sailors System except for the mispelling of M.C. Duggin whose name appears on the offical roster as M.C. Duggan. No doubt you had it right in the paper but newspapers had many mistakes. Also D.R. Harlin was NOT to be found period. Of these men with the Red River Rangers ie Bailey,Thomas,Ward McDaniel,Duggan,Williams, and Covington all appear on the roster for the 3rd Regiment Tennessee Cavalry (Forrest). However this unit was NOT formed until September of 1862 and the Dix-Hill Cartel agreement had exchanged all of the military prisoners in both North and South. Therefore all of these men must have been taken to prison at Camp Douglas since all of them were listed as enlisted. Also all of these men appear to be with Company D. of the 3rd Regiment Tennessee Cavalry (Forrest). I say Douglas since the bulk of enlisted were taken to Douglas. I do NOT have the Camp Douglas records as I do the Chase prison records so perhaps Alan can verify or confirm one of these soldiers as being at Douglas? As for D.R. Harlin perhaps he was a DR? Harlin? Just a guess but he seems to have just vanished. He could have died prior to Donelson or died at Douglas? The other names were just too perfect for him NOT to have been with the Red River Rangers as Sims reported.
