Based on a hand written note, dated February 4, 1863 this was a Federal encampment. I have an order from a Captain Augustus Vignos, dated February 4, 1863, camped near Brooks Station, VA. The order authorizes a family relative to proceed to Acquia Creek Landing to acquire a coffin for Private Jacob Bowman who had just died. The order comes from the 10th Reg. Ohio Vol. Inf. 2nd Brigade, 1st Division, 11th Army Corps, Army of the Potomac.
