Capt. James B. Martin commanded Co. F, 22nd Alabama. I have a copy of a letter sent by him to my great-great-great grandfather John Goodwin to inform him of the death of his son-in-law, William Blake, and nephew, John M. Goodwin at the Battle of Chickamauga. This company was made up of young men from Randolph County and other nearby counties. The text of the letter is posted on the Randolph County website.

The book Alabama Records, vol. 83 also contains excerpts from another letter sent by Jim Martin to the widow of John M. Goodwin, who was from Talladega County.
