"Hurieosco Austill. Appointed Captain June 10, 1862; formerly 2nd Lieutenant of Company “E” of the 1st Alabama Artillery Battalion. Relieved [December 15, 1862]; returned to his original command. [DAB3:68; UA/61]"

"Austill was one of General Bragg's appointments which violated military law and were later voided."
Know well the Austill name, and I thought I recalled ""Hurieosco Austill" or something similar. Finally
remembered the source and found the reference.
T. H. Ball's "Clarke County, Alabama And Its Surroundings..." includes many references to the Austill family. Huricosco [sic] Austill and Henry Austill are mentioned as having been students, along with several others who are named, at Rockville in 1853 and 1854. [p. 414]
"Hurieosco Austill, the only living son [of Jeremiah Austill], an excellent hunter and marksman in his boyhood, a good student and a very pleasant pupil, is now a lawyer at Mobile and has held for some years the office of Chancellor." [p. 465]
Perhaps Bragg's Mobile ties prompted this appointment.
