Since you have identified John L. MARTIN, Co. I, 12th Alabama Infantry,
as a great-uncle, do wonder if you can advise any additional information.
1) Where did he live (or likely live) when the 1860 U. S. Census was taken?
2) Do you know the names of his parents and siblings?
3) Were any of his siblings likely to have served in CSA?
4) Do you know where he is buried? Somewhere in Mobile?
"Very scanty service record."
Understand well about scanty service records! Most of the ones I've ordered
for men who served from Alabama seem to be of this nature, unfortunately.
