>However, there is a MARTIN, J.K. listed as a member of the 2nd Ala. Inf., Co. B, as a Private."
>>270. Martin, James K. P., OFU: Martin, J. K. P., Co. B, 42 Ala. Inf., Private/Private
>>335. Martin, J. K. P., Co. B, 42 Ala. Inf., Private/Private
>"MARTIN, J.K., Private
42nd Alabama Infantry Regiment, Co. B and possibly 2nd Alabama Infantry Regiment, Co. B
(Paroled at Vicksburg.)"
>>Strangely, I don’t have any J. K. MARTINs. Do you think J. K. might be one of the J. K. P. MARTINs above?
These all appear to be one and the same person. 2nd Ala. Inf. Regt. Co. B = 42nd Ala. Infantry Regt. Cos. B & D
Regarding Holmes Dent Martin, interestingly, the unit history on Dr. Jones' page shows Alberto Martin as a Capt., but not as a Lt. Col. It does not show Holmes Dent as a Capt. But, it does show that four companies of the 10th were Captained by Martins! Can you imagine the confusion caused by this? Imagine a soldier answering, "I'm in Capt. Martin's Company"!
I *think* that my source on these two brothers is from the book on Jefferson County soldiers. It may be from a Pickens County newspaper obit, though.
