Duncan A. McCallum died Nov. 11, 1862 four miles west of Camp Nelson (Cabot, Arkansas) at the home of A.J. Gingles. The house site is now nothing but ruins in a hay field. Duncan is buried in the Bethel Cemetery (north Pulaski County, Arkansas). He is buried between members of the William Barron's family in the Barron family plot. These people all knew each other from the 1840's-1850's while living in the York District, South Carolina. The McCallum, Wood, Wilson and Wallace families were all kin through marriages. The Wood and Wilson families came to the Austin, Arkansas area from York District, South Carolina early 1850's, and the McCallum and Wallace families moved to east Texas (Rusk Co.) about the same time. They also came from York District, South Carolina.
