Yes these men were all in Company D Hawthorne's (later Cocke's) Ark Inf Regt also known as the 6th Trans Miss INf as well as (erroneously) the 6th Ark Inf. (Hawthorne had commanded the 6th Ark Inf previously). I have quite a number who died there and in the vicinity. When we tried to get a memorial marker to put up here in Saline County, they (VA) said they talked to the Camp Nelson Cemetery official who said he was buried there but marked with an unknown. Now I know that no one told the VA he was buried there and marked with an unknown, but they are saying that since he is possibly there and they have "unknown' markers then he is marked. I will probably have to get the congressional folks involved again. What I really need is some good documentation that states/proves only 1/5 of the men were actually buried in the cemetery that died and that the others are scattered about there in Lonoke county. If you could provide me some of that I might be able to "convince" the VA folks that these men are eligible for a memorial marker to place in our Confederate Memorial Cemetery in Benton.
