Thanks. We still fall for the old George Washington tossed a silver dollar over the Potomac River, when the Potomac is over a mile wide at Mt. Vernon thus rendering this impossible to do. It was actually the Rappahannock River at Fredericksburg.
Same with the myth of Betsy Ross designing the first American flag. She made some flags in her time but did not design it - this was not brought up until after the Civil War by her grandson by the way. The actual designer was one of the guys who signed the Declaration of Independence (and I forget his name).
Yet Americans still belive both stories despite them having been proven wrong.
