The names of many original residents show up all over the place and there are a whole lot of decendants. My Spanish line is the Caro line (and it's one of hubbys too) who came with Don Francisco Moreno (Angela's father). My 3x GGrandfather Joseph E. Caro was the "Keeper of the Spanish Archives". Sort of a fancy way of saying he transcribed all of the original land grants for this part of West Florida and Mobile from Spanish to English. In doing this, those who had the grants were able to submit them to the US Government with a request that they be honored by the US. They were granted their request on the grants.
The Pensacola Historical Society puts out a booklet every once in a while (Pensacola History Illustrated) and there is one edition that has the most information on the burning of the mills at Bagdad and the entire area as the US Govt. moved in as Bragg moved out of Ft Barrancas. This is information I knew nothing about. Even in the 'stone age' we weren't taught every little bit of History but we learned more than the kids are today.
