The Florida in the Civil War Message Board

Zack, Very true about newspapers of the time. They also went with a great deal of second-hand information that led to some interesting reports! The surviving external magazine of the arsenal is being restored and, of course, the Officer's Quarters and Guardroom still survive. I've also been able to find sections of walls, etc., incorporated into other modern buildings at the site. Its a shame the Armory and tower didn't survive the 1960s.

I believe the 6-pounder captured at the arsenal, by the way, was the same one used by the Gadsden County home guards during the Battle of Natural Bridge four years later.

Feel free to contact me anytime I can be of help. I'm working primarily with Creek War material right now, but I have tons of resources on Civil War activity in Florida, Georgia and Alabama (as well as Arkansas).

Best,
Dale
