William Vann was in Capt. Oliver Hazzard Perry Brewer's company (his brother-in-law) attached to the 1st Cherokee Mtd Vols before the formation of the 2nd regiment. He was reported as being wounded on November 15, 1862. On this particular day, there is no record of any engagement by Brewer's company. On Nov. 9th, a detachment of the company was scouting on Greenleaf Creek and encountered elements of the 3rd IHG, the Pin Regiment. The 1st Cherokee Mtd Vols abandoned their encampment near Webbers Falls and moved east toward Skullyville and returned a few days later after Phillips command had left the area. However, they were scouting the southern and southeast Cherokee Nation to monitor Phillips' movements and hunt for Pins and he may have been in one of these groups. He may have otherwise been detached from his company. Of course it is also possible the date is recorded wrong. During this time Watie was scouting in the northern Cherokee Nation with a portion of the command.

Brewer's company became company F, 2nd Cherokee Mtd Vols (Adair's Regt) when it was formed in 1863.

By the way, OHP Brewer was the older brother of my great great grandmother, Nancy Ella Brewer. He was married to the sister of David and William -- Delilah Vann Brewer.
