Re: Brewer
In Response To: Re: Brewer ()

John,
John Brewer is my ggg grandfather. His daughter Nancy married Franklin Pierce West (who was too young for the Civil War) -- my gg grandparents.

I recently tried to determine the location of John's grave. I suspect it is at the Brewer Cemetery near Braggs as this was the old home place. It is just my guess the the middle initial "C" stands for "Calhoun" due to the commonality of names between the Brewer, West, Alberty, and Taylor families, e.g. John Calhoun West who was also in Watie's Regiment.

Lt Col Thomas Fox Taylor was captured at the battle of Bayou Menard and then murdered by the Pins. I suspect he was buried in an unmarked grave or the body burned by the Pins. I have never heard of the body being recovered or turned over to the family or the Confederates forces.

I'll dig out my notes on the Brewers, Wests, etc. and provide more.

I'd love to see the photo of William Snow Brewer!
