Roger that, on the yankee papers , so to speak, but then why on the heading of such does it say "B / 5MTD / KY" ??
Enlisted Oct.19,1861, Mustered in Nov.18, 1861, Pikeville , KY, Col.J.S Williams. Twelve month enlistment.
Then soon after his unit being "pressed" outa KY (Ivy mountain & Middle Creek),Thru Pound Gap, he sided with Peagram to get his butt kicked at
"Dutton' Hill" (near somerset KY). "Father I came close to being killed in that fight" (a letter home), " I left Peagram and went with Clukes Men" (A letter Home), R.S. Cluke (whom died in a prisoner of war camp) being a Regt. Commander in J.H.Morgans Unit at the time.
No Sir, I do not doubt what you say other than the papers the Yanks produced may not include what actually took place on the ground.

The man had been captured three different times, would he not be willing to say the correct answers to what was asked????
Oh well, I have nothing but admiration for the "Orphan Brigade" but I believe my ancestor was never a part of it.
In his letters he spoke often of things in Hunt Morgans Unit " There are a great many Rascals here that bring Odium on us all"(letter home).
Not to his detriment nor the brigades, but he moved on else where, Forced to Camp Morton after his last capture.
I personally am scared to death of horses, and my Grand Mother blamed it on the War.
She never mentioned which one.
Its a shame we have so many Wars to choose from - EH?
