Who was the captain whose son the Indiana cavalry captured in Talbot's camp? My best guess is that Gavitt is talking about Talbot himself. Gavitt wrote that he captured the captain's uniform and papers, and the only Rebel officer he could name in his report is Talbot, although he also captured a lieutenant. I would suppose that Gavitt did not find the captured lieutenant's name important enough to mention in his wordy report. My guess is that if Gavitt had another name of a high Rebel officer he would have included it in his writing. Although Gavitt's report is not worded precisely, I believe the Indiana troopers captured Talbot's son at the camp along with Talbot's uniform and papers, but I have no additional evidence to make that case.
