Re: Benjamin Talbot
In Response To: Benjamin Talbot ()

Found this by accident last night while researching John Dean(e) of Potosi:

Eyewitness account placing the ever elusive Ben Talbot at the head of a small force of men during the Price Raid. It is my opinion that Ben would have been acting in concert with his brother-in-law Lucian N Farris and the rest of Clardy's Battalion.

Statement of Joseph W. Nedwideck, A citizen of Potosi Washington County MO.
I was taken prisoner Sept 27, 1864 by Rebel Capt. Sherby (Shelby) my wife was also taken with me. I was taken to my own house and ordered by Gen. C. Shelby to bed, as I have the Rhumatism at the time. Every thing I have was taken by the Rebs. I have not been left anything, what they did not take away they destroyed, they took two watches from my wife; she had them in her bosum. I saw John Deane Of Potosi with them. He was assisting the Rebs. And Doctor McCollins said that Deane got paid at Mrs. Anderson Casey’s house; for all the good that the Rebs took from him; Deane too Tom Reynolds To Mrs. Light’s House to get something to eat. Mrs. Light would not give them anything to eat. I saw James and Henry Itsom and Busaby? Also Bill Huff formerly of the 8th MO Reg and Charley Huff formerly of the 12th Mo. Cav. all in the Rebel ranks having joined their service. Ben Talbot and nine men stayed in Potosi 9 days, taken any thing he could get, from the 30th Sept to 8th of Oct. My Sister in law found the body of Col. Walker and Old Hoffman tried to prevent me from burying the Body in my graveyard lot. He is an old Rebel; I saw Col. Coffey, he was with them, also saw Genl. Price. Also saw 2 small pieces and 4 large pieces of artillery. Mr. Ambrose Casey has two sons in the Rebel army and is a very bitter Rebel herself.
