I happen to have that volumn of the Confederate Veteran. In the spring of 1863, the Captain, former Assessor of Johnson County, Mo., who had raised three companies, as a recruiting officer, was captured by "Home Guards," tried by court-martial, and executed, within 18 miles of his widowed mother.
