Say, that's news! I imagine LTC Gordon had some of Captain Elliott's "scouts and spies" provide escort, because I seem to recall some of them were captured in that country sometime in 1863--probably in this mission. Evidently, the Union military had no idea LTC Gordon was even in the region or was even home.
