John, this is huge info for me! Many, many thanks. Nelson is either Edward T's brother or cousin. I thought his brother by that name died young, and may have, but I will have to research further. His cousin from Ralls is the other candidate and is grandson of Sam Smarr of Mark Twain fame. Edward T's mother was Sam's daughter. Where do I find your info at??

Edward T's father was William Tarlton Taylor Smarr, who was murdered in 1864 in Lafayette Co when called out on his porch at night, according to county history book, by Union troops. Now I'm wondering if Edward and Nelson got sighted at WTT's house, rounded up, taken to prison and WTT killed for harboring rebel troops.
