Have no idea as to what might have been the source of information. However, Josiah Byrd probably did not serve in two different organizations at the same time. Since his age and residence as shown in the service file discharge matches the census, we can be fairly confident about record with the 3rd Mississippi State Battn. Also, since Josiah Byrd qualified as physically disabled for field service, it's unlikely that he would ever have served in the army again. Based on age, Josiah Byrd probably was not in service earlier, either.
I don't see anything else about him in the Confederate Citizen business files.
