Josiah Walton Byrd Jr was born in 1847 and lived in Greene Co. I don't know if he was the person in the 9th MS as I don't have his record. But I do have Josiah Walton Byrd's record, Pvt in 3rd MS Inf. And this is the 45 year old man who was born in Orangeburg/Darlington SC in 1816; migrated to Neely, Greene Co., MS; enlisted in Leakesville and then was discharged about 60 days later because of a medical discharge. This is the man buried in the grave featured on the website for Greene Co. MS veterans. I have a picture of the grave and there is no regiment engraved on the stone. Where did the Co. A, 9th MS Infantry come from? There is no Confederate marker or iron cross to indicate he was in that unit. Show me the source, please.
