Jeff, while doing some Internet research about the 55th NC (something I haven't done actively for a long time) I came across your 2006 book about the regiment. I purchased it through Amazon.com and I look forward to reading it, as there are very few references about the regiment.

My great-great-great grandfather, Thomas Harold Neal of Warren County NC, was a private in Company I of the 55th and was with the regiment at Gettysburg. While I've never been able to confirm for sure as far as whether he participated in the regiment's actions on July 1st and 3rd, I do know that he was captured on July 5th and imprisoned in Fort Delaware, where he died the following October.

Another author who has written a book about Davis's Brigade at Gettysburg told me that his sources listed my ancestor as participating with the regiment on the assault on Cemetery Ridge on July 3rd, where he was wounded and later captured in a Confederate hospital upon the Confederate retreat from the area. I just wanted to ask you if you had any sources for your book that could confirm that and that you'd be willing to share. Thank You!
