Thank you all for clearing up my Grandfather Reuben Green, and yes, I was aware of the other Greens as they were his brothers. Strangely, I also have several other members of my family who served in Company D. Athel M. Cabaniss (reported for duty in Oct 63') and his older brother Lieut. J.B. Cabaniss (I have also seen the name spelled Caviness). I also was wondering where you find your information on the specific companies. I have other ancestors in other regiments I want to research and see as to their participation at certain places. I realize that the company muster rolls were only done every two months or so, so it is difficult to say when, if, and in what capacity an individual served during a battle. I am particularly interested in the 18th NC, 42nd NC and 37th NC. Also, one more question. I visited to NC state archives and looked at many of the compiled service records for these men. Now, I discovered on several of them the following: Appears on a Roll of Honor. Reuben Green appeared with this documentation. I looked online for some information about this roll of honor and came up with two things. The first is the Daughters of the Confederacy's list of honored men. The other was an explanation of a Confederate government ordinance that had the members of a particular company vote for one or two men per battle for acts of bravery or heroism. They would be honored at the next muster roll. I was wondering if anyone could tell me more about that. If there are any records still left that explain why someone received the honor or at what location. Sorry for going on so long, I just want to make sure I can get as much information that is accurate about my ancestors. Thank you again all who have helped me out!
