I hope you enjoy the book, Tom is correct, although there were several men from the 55th wounded on July 1 in and around the railroad cut who still participated in the assault on the 3rd, his wounding seems to have been enough to keep him out. Several members of the regiment were captured on July 5, including Colonel Connally near Cashtown. When Brigadier General John Imboden, who Lee placed in command of the escort guarding the wagons began moving south on July 4 many of the wounded had to be left behind(over 6800)because of lack of space and the fact that the move might add to their suffering or even kill many more. I recently had another book on the 55th published. "Deliver us from this Cruel War: The Civil War Letters of Lt. Joseph J. Hoyle." He was a member of Comapny F the South Mountain Rangers.
