North Carolina Troops 1861-1865: A Roster shows Private Reuben Hambrick Green as being wounded in the thigh and/or the right side on 1 July 1863. Although he is not listed as captured, his wound was likely serious, and he might have been taken prisoner in a hospital after the retreat of the army, which for Gettysburg wounded is usually on 4 or 5 July. Records show that most of Company D's casualties were sustained on 1 July, although the regiment suffered heavily on both 1 and 3 July.
