Who today knows? He may have had an OCD problem, manic depressive, schitzo, just plain nuts. Could he have been developing an early case of senility? We will never know for sure. I do believe he had his moments of great thought and moments when he was confused with himself. I can see where other officers may have been a bit iffy in trusting him. Had he never been given command of soldiers who were actually going into a battle, he may have gone down in History with less discussion.
