John, are you giving Grant a free pass on this? Just being curious. Myself, I am careful of how I treat a Jew. You know, Jesus had brothers and sisters (1/2 brothers and sisters). He also had cousins, aunts and uncles etc. just like the rest of the human race. When one is speaking to a Jew I suppose it is possible that one may actually be addressing a blood relative of our Savior. That may seem fat fetched to some but it does make food for thought, wouldnt you agree?

I have to say Grant was no dummy and I feel certain when he said Jew he meant Jew. This is one of the oldest hatreds on earth, the hatred of the Jew. Grant was not alone in his opinion of the Jewish race. But the fact that such an opinion exist at all pretty much erases any doubts as to whether Grant was a racist, at least by our high 21st century standards.
