My grgrgrandfather, James Pegram, enlisted in Co A, 50th TN Inf on 17 Aug 1861 for one year. He enlisted from Montgomery County, TN. On 16 Feb 1862, his entire regiment was captured and they were POWs until they were released on 20 Sep 1862. At least part of that time, they were at Camp Douglas, IL. He was paroled on 20 Apr 1863 (I'm not totally sure what this means.) He signed an Oath of Allegiance on 5 May 1865. His period of active duty far exceeded his one year enlistment.
I have a photo of him taken in 1925, and it shows a leg missing. I do not know whether this was a result of his civil war service.
He died on 19 Sep 1927. He is buried in Oak Grove Cemetery, Paducah, KY. I recently received a Veteran's Administration Confederate civil war headstone and placed it on his unmarked grave.
