Where was James M. Hicks living at the time of the 1860 Census? I cannot locate him. He may have ended up joining one of the local Confederate "Home Guard" or partisan ranger units.
William E. "Buck" Hicks, who was from the 8th District, never made it back to the 50th after the surrender of Donelson. He moved to Calloway County, KY, after the war and his family in Stewart County would not have much to do with him. He claimed to have served in the cavalry after Donelson but no record of this later service can be found. He was though bestowed with the "Southern Cross of Honor" by the UDC chapter here at Murray, KY.
My Vinson family owned the "Homeplace 1850s" property on Pryor Creek in Stewart County. This is right in the area of the Great Western Furnace.
