Ken, I know about Rebecca Gardner, age 9 in the 1850 Stewart County census. She was the daughter of John and Harriet Gardner. John was Andrew Jackson Gardner's older brother. So Rebecca was "Jack's" neice. I think that means we are almost cousins. (:
See my message again. A.J. (Jack) Gardner came home from Alton, Il after taking the Oath in March 1862 and went to Montgomery County to join Co. B, Napier's Battalion of partisans. This unit was mustered into the 10th TN Cavalry as Co. E in Dec. 1862 and served first under Forrest...and Wheeler some of the time.
That might be a good starting place to look for Riley.
