Re: Attention Jerry Coffee, re: Wyatt, 10th Texas

Several negroes owned by my g.g.grandfather Elijah Wyatt went to Arkansas with him and handled his supply wagons. They took "Massah Lighe" to Little Rock for burial after he died in the measles epidemic among the 10th Texas Cavalry in 1862.

My g.g.g grandfather Samuel Wyatt owned a farm and tannery on a 360 acre land patent (grant) he received from the Republic of Texas in 1854.The land was located just north of Pittsburg,Texas, about ten miles north of Coffeeville in Upshur County Texas. The area where Samuel Wyatt's land grant was located was carved out of Upshur County in 1874 and became Camp County and Pittsburg became the county seat.

That area had access to a inland port on Big Cypress Creek, an inland waterway for keelboats to New Orleans through Jefferson,Texas. It was the major supply route for Confederate munitions, metal and leather goods, clothing and other supplies that were manufactured in Upshur County.
