Re: Attention Jerry Coffee, re: Wyatt, 10th Texas

Only about 150 men of the ortiginal 900 recruits of the 10th Texas Dismounted Cavalry returned to their homes in Texas. I doubt if very many soldiers have marked graves in military cemeteries in areas where they fought and died. I read one account from a old solider from Upshur County Texas(now Camp County), who was in the 18th Texas Cavalry. He wrote that he was told that more than 900 men of various units were buried in unmarked graves at Camp Nelson near Austin, Arkansas. Most of those were not killed in action or from wounds but they died of disease, exposure and from the endless road marches.

Col. Allison Nelson, for whom the camp was named, himself died of disease in 1862.
