It might be of interest to you that three of the prisoners originally taken to Camp Ford escaped and showed up back in Fort Smith a few months later.

I have a couple of different eyewitness accounts of the return of these men to Fort Smith and the story they told of their escape.

I am interested in the second skirmish you mention. There was a second skirmish just outside of Fort Smith at about that time, but the accounts I have do not mention its location.
