The prisoners captured at Flat Rock were captured by Watie and Gano near Flat Rock Creek and Grand River just north and east of present Wagner OK. See reports to/from Cooper, Watie, Gano, and Maxey beginning p.781 and particularly Watie's report on p.785 in ORs Series 1, Vol. 41. This was during the raid to capture the supply train from Ft Scott to Ft Gibson (2nd Battle of Cabin Creek).

Those captured "near Ft Gibson" may have been related to the Flat Rock Creek affair or to an attack the next day very close to Ft Gibson (near present Okay OK) just a couple of miles across the Grand River from the fort in which the Confederates were repulsed. Of course, they may also have been pickets or scouts encountered by Watie and Gano during the expedition. Their route was from Camp Pike on Canadian (near Whitefield OK) to Prairie Springs (just southeast of Muskogee OK) crossing the Arkansas upstream from the Verdigris, then east across the Verdigris at Sand Town to near the mouth of Flat Rock Creek -- there is a creek where the battle occurred known as "Nigger Creek" but I have not determined if that is due to the battle in which so many Black troops were killed or because many Freedmen settled there after the war. They then turned north to intercept the supply train but sent a battalion toward Ft Gibson which encountered Union cavalry where the road from Ft Gibson intersects with the Texas Road. The supply train was camped at the Cabin Creek crossing on the Texas Road and was captured and carried south with a skirmish near present Pryor OK (Pryor Creek) and crossed the Arkansas near the present Keystone Dam west of Tulsa ("Cooper's road of 1861" -- the Dawson Road -- at the time of the Round Mountain battle of Nov 1861) and ultimately south to the refugees along the Red River in the Choctaw Nation and North Texas.

It appears the number that made it to Camp Ford is much less than the number reported captured.
