Great job on the web site! I wonder if you could add something to your description of the fight at Chehaw Station (Rousseau's Raid)? As I stated in one of my posts above Lockhart's Battalion most certainly comprised the bulk of the Confederate troops engaged there and also most certainly sustained the most casualties. As Homer has stated the Uof A Cadets numbered less than 50. Lockhart's Battlion consisted of 8 companies and so must have consisted of at least 400. Brewer’s History states:

"Lockhart's Battalion, the nucleus of this regiment, was organized at Selma, in January 1864, and was on duty in the State until July, when it moved up to Cheha, and lost severely in the fight there with Rousseau."

This battalion was neither militia, conscripts nor University Cadets but 16 and 17 year old boys (and some younger)who volunteered as soldiers. Some have assumed they were conscripts because Col.Lockhart was in charge of the conscript bureau. However Lockhart was never commander or member of the unit. Maj. Davidson simply named the battalion after him because they were friends. Company A was called "Lockhart's Cadets" but was formed by Davidson and Capt. Ward of Bibb County boys.

These boy soldiers acquitted themselves well at Chehaw and again at Fort Gaines, Spanish Fort and Blakeley. They deserve to be remembered.
