Thanks so much for your patience in wading through all this.
I realise that this can get confusing. I just want these boys (Lockhart's battlion aka 1st Reserve aka 62nd Ala Inf)to be remembered for doing their duty. For some reason their sacrifice and service has been overlooked even by serious Alabama Historians. Their story is something that every Alabamian should know about and take great pride in. All the enlisted where 16 1n 17 year olds (or younger) most of the officers were old veterans ALL WERE VOLUNTEERS.(Who I might add volunteered in the beginning of the darkest days of the Confederacy after the great losses at Gettysbug and Vicksburg.)

As I have stated above the bulk of the CS forces at Chehaw had to have been of this battalion. Most of those 40 dead where these plain, common farm boys and not the University Cadets. Yet the Cadets are the only ones remembered! If Lockharts Battlaion is mentioned at all they are lumbed in with the "conscripts". Guess it would be differant if there was a "Lockhart University Football Team"!
