Hayes:

All these fellows are sons of Vincent A.and Margaret V. (Manning) Buntin. Vincent, his brother William, and sister Sussana came to Pickens County in the late 1820's from Nash County, NC, the children of William and Penelope Buntin of that place. Sussana married W. W. Manning, brother of Margaret. William II, after his first wife Martha died, married Eliza Horton in February 1845, the daughter of Jesse and Sarah Horton, and sister of John D. Horton. This couple had, according to family legend, a son Jesse C. Buntin. This was supposedly the "J.C. Buntin" who served in Co D, 42nd Alabama Inf at some time. In 1850 the couple were living in Morehead Parrish, LA, where William died in 1853. Thus Hollis, son of John D. Horton, may have been visiting cousins in LA when he jined up with the 3rd LA Inf in 1861.

The Buntin sons in Co B, 42nd Alabama Inf, continued this intermarrying with the Horton clan. William Pearson Buntin married Jane Elizabeth (or Eliza Jane) Horton, eldest daughter of John D. Horton, October 18, 1859. Two of their sons were Charles Leonidas (1867) and Alonza Vincent (1868). The Buntin house built by William P. Buntin was occupied by my aunt and uncle, living with the widow of William and Jane's youngest son, when it was destroyed by a tornado in 1964. This was located some four miles south of Bridgeville, and two miles north of Sipsey.

Thomas C. Buntin married Adeline Ophelia Horton, daughter of John D. Horton and his second wife Julia Holly. One of their sons was named Leonidas P. Buntin.

Their younger brother, Wiley V. Buntin, was born September 13, 1850, a bit young to serve in the War as much more than a musician.

Would like to find out more about William Pearson Buntin, and particularly the date he transferred to the 42nd Alabama from the 8th Conf. Cav. Was it February 1864? Also his experiences as a POW.
