They had both already been in Confederate service though, so I guess you could say that they "re-enlisted" on those dates. They had both first enlisted for a year's service in the 2nd Ala. Inf. Regt., and like most members of Company B of that regiment, they re-enlisted in Company B of the 42nd. A few ended up in Company D, and of course some (very few) did not re-enlist at that time.
