With all these gentlemen who were obviously good friends moving between the 8th Confederate Cav and 42nd Alabama Inf, might Alonza Horton have enlisted in McCaa's Rangers but have died prior to the consolidation of the battalions into the 8th Confederate Cav? If this were the case, would he be shown on the rolls of the 8th anyway, or with the earlier organization? Have you found info on the 8th Confed Cav, and do you have a muster roll of McCaa's company?

On another note with this group, what is the approximate date of consolidation of the 42nd and other regiments into the 37th Alabama? Obviously H.T. and G.W. were detached/separted from the 42nd when this occurred.
