Phil,
I am a reenactor, I have been 1976 to date. I also am a Civil War Relic collector about thirty years now,in the SCV and yes it is intellectual curiosity.

Pvt.Hugh Lawson Duncan 39th Georgia Infantry wore a Tait jacket at the surrender and it still survives. The jacket is shown on page 139 in the book Echoes of Glory Arms and Equipment of the Confedercy.

Like you I also have relatives in the 34th, but my blood line back to them is a little closer. My great grandfather and great uncles were in the unit not GG Great.

Anyway, you just start getting close to these people and you would like to know more and more about them. Like this uniform thing...and what type of weapons they used and on and on.

I have a great deal of pride in knowing that my Great Grandfather, David A. Bray was there for the last roll call on the last day...he saw the thing through to the end.

Thanks to this website today I now know that my Great uncle Martin C. Anthony died of disease Sept. 10 ,1862 in the service of his country and the 34th Georgia.

Also, we lost Tomas L. Bray Nov. 1862 due to disease at Lenoir station TN., and other Anthony boys in this war.

Keep your powder dry!
Gary D. Bray
