There is a very good photo of Hugh Lawson Duncan of the 39th about 1862 in a frock coat on page 37 of Echoes of Glory Arms and Equipment of The Confederacy.

I also would like to know about the mid war coats.

Just a guess but I would say most likely they came from Columbus.
