Re: NUNN Family Research
In Response To: Re: NUNN Family Research ()

Gentlemen, my deepest apologies for taking such a long time to respond to your most informative postings here. Work has kept me consumed for the past 48+ hours; however, I have come acccross some additional information re Augustus L. NUNN which unfortunately creates more of a conundrum than my original query. But first, I want to express my sincerest graditude to Mr. Bray (my cuz)as well as you, Mr. Simmons for the responsiveness you've shown and the most valuable info you've shared.

Augustus L. NUNN had several brothers, Thomas A.(Asbury?)NUNN, Elisha C., Payton and Howell NUNN. He also had several half brothers: Lemuel, James E. , and William A. NUNN. All from the same locale in GA at the outset of the war.

Indeed, I went to the Ft. Delaware website and posted a query there. Am still awaiting the response. Mr. Bray, I will send you a copy. In the meantime, I have found Augustus' widow, Minerva (ANTHONY)NUNN in the 1870 Fayette, AL census with three more children than were shown in the 1860 Jackson, GA census. Two of these children were conceived after 1863, when Augustus is supposed to have died in Delaware. I am certain this is the correct Minerva NUNN as she is surrounded by some of her known ANTHONY kin on the census record. She again appears on the Fayette, AL 1880 census with new husband, Turner THREATT, his son, my g-grandfather Thomas Collie NUNN(21) and one of his younger brothers Samuel A.J. NUNN (12).

I must say, I am still entertaining the possibility that records for NUNN brothers serving the state of GA became confused, unless Minerva adopted 2 nephews. This is truly interesting. Perhaps the compiled service records will shed some light on this issue. But then I have read that records for the AOT were not complete and may be of limited value. I shall contact the Hamilton County library in Chattanooga to inquire about obtaining service record for Augustus (they have AL, GA and TN records on microfilm) at my earliest opportunity. By the by, will keep in touch with the board, and you too Mr. Bray. You have been a wonderful advocate in the search for Augustus L. NUNN.
