Some of the comments posted to the blog are quite revealing.
I read Mr. Gilmore's book about nine months ago and started going through the PM index looking for records. Most of what I read did not seem to pertain to my area of interest so I did not even copy, mainly because I did not quite understand the context. However, some of the less prominent names mentioned in Gilmore's book, this message string and the above blog appear to be some of the same names I've been seeing in the OR and the Provost Marshall records that do pertain to my area of interest.
It appears to my untrained eye that the Union authorities split apart this group, used the ones they could control wherever and however they could be of the best advantage and least harm politically. Use a thief to catch a thief.
Bruce, it was this group that I was refering to when when I said that men who "bushwacked" Ben Talbot would have worn blue.
