Excellent Post. I have always been suspicious of Major Ramsom of the 6th Kansas who figures prominently in so many field reports. I am furter in agreement about the base of Red Leg power in Lawrence, one author quotes a Kansas man as saying there were very few inocent men in Lawrence. Still many were unarmed and what happened was a result of a blood feud, it was still a massacre. There are many examples of officers and men from various regiments travelling to and from Missouri that bunred out many homes, killed Missourians suspected of being bushwhackers without so much as a trial. I feel that the further we dig into the arives of the Provost Marshals we will truly discover what was actually going on in both states.
