I am a bit baffled by your statement that Lawrence was no special haunt of the redlegs. If so, why were Quantrill's raiders so obsessed wtih finding them there? It is generally accepted that Quantrill had spies in Lawrence and knew what was going on there, so why were his men so obsessed with finding a particular group of men in Lawrence, if they weren't there on a regular basis?
Also, some time ago, I ran across a list of Lawrence victims and their background. I made a copy of the list, but like a fool failed to record the source of the information. Anyway, here is a list of the men that the author of the list categorized as redlegs. I guess all this proves is that at least one person did some research and concluded a few of them were in Lawrence at the time.
* John A Cornell, redleg
* Ralph C Dix, redleg
* Stephen H (Steven) Dix, redleg
* Joe Finley, redleg
* Mr Goldman, redleg
* Mr Hanson, redleg
* George Kallmer, redleg
* Mr White, redleg
If anyone can help me remember where I found this, or has any knowledge of a similar list, please help me out here.
