New guy from LA Cal

Hi Folks great site. I have a BA in history from Cal State Northridge but I did not study Civil War history that much. I became interested in the MO Partisan Ranger conflict by readting T.J. Stiles biography of Jesse James. I also read Brownless Grey Ghosts of the Confederacy. I am now reading "The Devil knows how to ride. Edward Leslies biography of William Clarke Quantrill. I could not locate the search engine function of this website so i hope to ask a few questions.

Was the 2nd Colorado the most effective or one of the better anti bushwacker/partisan ranger units that the Union had?

I know Afro-Americans in MO served in the United States Coulored Troop did any USCT units fight the bushwackers /partisan rangers ?

Were there Afro-American EMM units or other parmilitary units that fought irregular Confederate forces?

Brownlee lists three Afro-Americans that served with Quantrill why they joined him I don't know. Does anybody know what happened to them post war? One did attend reunions of Quantrills men.

My family background is European Jews who first arrived in New York in the 1890s . I know Jews served in both sides of the Civil War Benjerman Judea (sp) serving in President Davis's cabinet being the most famous. I am sure Jews in St. Louis and other major cities served in the Union Army. Were any of the Jews members of any Partisan unit on the Confederate side? Did many serve in the regular Confederate units in MO?

Would it be fair to say there was a major ethnic conflict in western MO between the Bushwackers who were of English or Scotch/Irish descent vs German Americans who fought all or almost all on the Union side. Were there German ethnics in Bushwacker or Irregular Confederate units?

I hope to visit MO one day I am not religous so I enjoy deer hunting. If you folks are in LA let me know maybe I can buy you a beer.

Thank You for my overly long introduction,
Leonard Unger
