Thank you for the reply. The civilwararcieve.com lists a number of Mo state provisional units for Afro-Americans during Prices invasion. Thomas Goodrich's great book "Blak Flag" mentions a battle at Butler ,Mo with the Kans 1st Coulored Infantry vs Bushwackers I don't know if thats the same battle has the Battle of Island Mound. hindsight being 20/20 it would of served the Union cause greatly to use USCT units against the Bushwackers since the citizens of Mo had no way of knowing who was a Bushwacker or Ubion soldier/militaman since both sides pretented to be the other side. Even the 2nd Colo USV somehow were able to imitate a Mo accent well enough to fool some Mo residents into thinking that they were Bushwackers with bad results for those who fell for there charades.
