Re: USCT troops vs. Confederate guerrillas
Thanks Again,
There is a reference in Edward Leslies book"ride of the Devil" the true story of Wm Clarke Quantrill about Andersons band having a brush wit'Black Milita" in what was then known has the Indian Territory while they were enroute to Sherman, Texas winter of 1864. Intersting insight about checking census records. From what I researched about Afro-American troops in the Civil War there were very highly motivated and fought well but were not always well led and suffered high causalties. Gen Grant who was one of the first Gens to use the USCT (in Miss)was very happy with their performence and was really happ ywith his Mo troops.
Great info,
Leonard
